How This Inspiring Mother Daughter Duo Keep Each Other Healthy

By Ross Yellin, Esq. May 10, 2017

She started caring for you even before you were born. Eating the right foods, avoiding the bad ones. Monitoring every step of her pregnancy to ensure you were a happy, healthy baby. And that didn't stop once you were born. As is often the case, her life likely became a whole lot more about yours. So now that it's her big day, Mother's Day, how do you say thank you to mom?

Stevie Lyn Smith is an InsideTracker athlete and Registered Dietitian who jumped at the chance to give more than flowers. Stevie is always worrying about her mother’s health, thanks to a bit of sub-par family health history, and she decided that giving InsideTracker to the woman who gave her life was a good way to show how much she cares about her.

I had the pleasure of chatting with Stevie to discuss all things InsideTracker and triathlon training – she shares both with her mom, Lisa Beaser – and most importantly, how they laugh their way through it all.

This Veteran Uses InsideTracker to Optimize His Performance and Stay Alive

By Ross Yellin, Esq. Nov 11, 2016

Meet Chris McNamara, a total badass. With more than 15 years of active duty, being a Master Sergeant and member of the Army Special Operations Command qualifies him for the superlative alone. Add to that, his Joint Service Commendation Medal, 5 Bronze Stars, and USOC Medic of the Year awards along with the fact that he’s a CrossFit Regionals athlete, and a testicular cancer survivor, and you’ve got a deadly combination on your hands.

So how does he stay on top of all it, and continue to operate at peak performance like his life depends on it (oh wait, it does!)? Simple, he takes the time to ensure his motor is running like a finely tuned sports car. Just like checking the oil, he tests with InsideTracker, and encourages the athletes he coaches and his fellow unit members to test as well.

In anticipation of Veteran's Day, I had the pleasure of sitting down with him to talk about his experience…

Trick Your Body Into Thinking It's Having a Treat

By Ross Yellin, Esq. Oct 27, 2016

Trick or treat! Halloween marks the beginning of a long season in which to eat, drink, and be merry. For many of us, this means indulging a bit more than we normally would, skipping a workout here and there, and maybe foregoing a salad for a bowl of soul-warming pasta.

Add that to falling temperatures and a desire to curl up under the covers, and you have a recipe for diet disaster on your hands. The dreaded winter weight-gain can creep up quickly, but so can subsequent springtime weather, when we begin to shed the layers only realize it's a bit harder to shed those extra pounds. Where do we end up? Back in the gym working it all off...

Are You Fit Enough For Contact Sports? Rugby's All The Rage.

By Ross Yellin, Esq. Aug 11, 2016

Did you know that until their loss against Fiji yesterday, Team USA was the defending Olympic Rugby Champion? That’s right, back in 1924—the last time rugby was played in the Olympics—Team USA took home the Gold. And though they weren't able to defend their title, they played hard hitting rugby, and were just narrowly edged out by the (best in the world) competition.

As a long-time rugby player, I’ve received my fair share of questions: “people play rugby in the US? There’s more than just one team? How did you get into it in the first place?” And perhaps most commonly, some iteration of: “Aren’t you afraid you’re going to get hurt?!”

The short answer to the common question: no. I’m not afraid of getting hurt, I’m afraid that if I get hurt, I may not be able to continue playing the sport I love so much. But, no matter your sport, you can relate to rugby. From sprints to tackles, and from kicks to throws, if you play a field sport, or are interested in increasing your endurance, train like a rugby player and you'll be built to impress in no time. Here, I'll not only provide a few tips on recovery and how to be rugby-ready for your upcoming season, I'll also give you a quick glimpse into the history of the sport, and a bit of “Rugby 101" so that you can join the conversation.

Top 10 Tips: Boston Marathon

By Ross Yellin, Esq. Apr 25, 2016

The Boston Marathon. The most historic marathon in the country. This 26.2 mile course leading from the suburbs into the heart of Boston has been run each year on Patriot's Day for 120 consecutive years. Yet, unlike other traditions which grow old, this one seems to renew itself each year with even deeper meaning. Being a Boston-based company, we'll admit that we're a bit biased. But, even those who have run marathons all over the world agree, there is something truly special about this historic race.

This year, we couldn't help but join in the revelry, and threw not one, but two parties to celebrate. The first, a shakeout run led by ultramarathoner, Mike Wardian. While you might think a 3-mile run would be nothing for someone who regularly runs 50+, he ran it completely blindfolded! The second, lunch and conversation with Mike Wardian, nutrition and fitness expert, Tawnee Prazak, and the co-founder of November Project, the free and fun fitness craze, Brogan Graham.
